General Machining & Metal Fabrication in Hobart
Parts Made, Not Just Ordered
When a part is obsolete, on backorder, or was never sold separately to begin with, making a new one is often faster than chasing a supplier. At Radial Engineering, we combine general machining with metal fabrication in Hobart, covering turning, milling, fitting, cutting and welded assembly from the same workshop. A job needing a machined shaft, a bushing and a fabricated bracket doesn't get split between separate contractors. We work from drawings, from a sample part, or from what's left of the original once it's failed. Material choice is part of the job, and we'll flag it when the original specification is the reason the part didn't last. For heavy component work, horizontal boring often runs alongside it. Machining & Fabrication Capabilities
The workshop covers both sides of the job, from raw material through to finished assembly.

Turning and milling. We machine shafts, bushes, spacers, pins and housings to drawing or to a supplied sample, in steel, stainless and non-ferrous materials.
Fitting and assembly. We fit and assemble machined components before they leave, so clearances get checked in the actual assembly rather than assumed from a drawing.
Cutting, forming and welded fabrication. We fabricate frames, brackets, guards, chutes and structural components, working from drawings or from a description of what the part has to do.
Repairs and modifications. Existing equipment often needs altering rather than replacing, so we machine, cut and re-weld assemblies to suit changed conditions.
FAQs
01What is needed to have a replacement part made without a drawing?
The old part is usually enough, even in pieces, because we can measure it and work from it as the pattern. Where the original has worn badly, knowing what it mates with and how it failed fills in the rest.
02Is a fabricated part as strong as a cast or forged one?
It depends on the application. A well-designed fabrication matches or exceeds a casting for many structural uses, though castings and forgings still hold the advantage where complex shapes or high fatigue loading are involved.
03How much does material choice affect how long a machined part lasts?
Hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance all pull in different directions, so the right material depends on whether the part is loaded, sliding, or sitting in a wet environment. Matching the original specification isn't always the best answer, particularly when the original failed early.
